Handmade pieces made from natural materials last a long time when they are looked after well. A few habits make all the difference.
Keep fibres dry
Jute, cane and murta cane do best in dry air. Wipe spills quickly and let pieces air dry fully before putting them away.
Treat clay gently
Terracotta is fired clay. Hand wash it, avoid sudden temperature changes, and soak planters before first use so the clay does not pull water from the soil.
Wash cotton cold
Kantha and jamdani cotton keep their colour best with cold water, mild soap and drying in the shade.
